CNY Fertility Center has new headquarters

When In Good Health last visited with Dr. Robert Kiltz of CNY Fertility Center, his office was located at Community General Hospital. That all changed in April when he opened his brand new facility on Intrepid Lane, just off routes 81 and 481 in the southern part of Syracuse.
Kiltz’s new surroundings reflect his concern for his patients’ comfort and empathy for their situation. “Infertility is a very stressful thing. We want people to feel comfortable,” he says. “We wanted to develop a facility that was comforting. There’s evidence that reducing stress improves outcomes.”
If the visitor didn’t already know that this was a doctor’s office, there are few hints. The reception area looks more like a well-appointed living room. There are hardwood floors with area rugs in shades of moss green, maroon and muted gold. In the center of the room are two plush sofas in a mossy green. There is also a fireplace and an armoire. The walls throughout the office are painted a soft, restful yellow. There is no doctor’s office white anywhere. “This has been my first experience decorating a place like this,” he says. “I did it with Pottery Barn’s assistance. I told them what I wanted and they delivered it.”
Beyond the paned glass doors lie the rest of the facility. For staff there is a large kitchen area. The office is designed so that patients don’t have to be moved from room to room for different procedures. There are labs for blood testing and an andrology lab for sperm freezing. Doctor Kiltz says that the lab is used to store sperm for long periods of time. This is especially important for men who undergo cancer treatment. There is an operating room, as yet unused, for laparoscopic procedures. There is even a library with Internet access for the patients’ use. “We do everything here,” he says. “They [the patients] don’t have to go from place to place.”
Giving birth to this new facility has been a lengthy process for Kiltz. He says he bought the land two years ago and started building in October. It also meant that he visited the site everyday and had to work with the architect to make sure everything was just as he wanted.
